The Good & The Bad - Forged Build II - Under the knife
Ouch - 0psi on the oil pressure gauge, drop the sump and find this @_@
The oil pickup was intact @_@
So what is the issue! Later found out the oil relief valve had jammed/siezed, I'm guessing due to this grit... Sad days
Stripping a good oil pump
Out she comes, getting good at this.
Later i split the oil pump to find this!
Bores look good
She only did 100km
Shiny under there
5th main bearing took a beating.
100/150km
Thrust bearing clearance issue? Or just that grit contamination
Previous history:
- block has been decked, bored, drilled and tap for oversize head studs.
- crank was ground, due to damage
- head was decked, ported & flowed, new stem seals, lifters cleaned and bled
- supposedly hot tanked (we also washed everything - no idea where the grit came from)
Current state:
- loss oil pressure
- dropped the sump, thinking oil pickup came off
- found ferrite grit in the sump!
- popped some main caps and was not happy
- oil pump relief valve was seized due to this grit we found.
What next -
- everything re-washed / hot tanked
- crank polish - looked closely and the crank seemed pretty good
- investigate the bore, is it worth a quick hone and new rings? or carry on...machinist reckons don't worry (I'm guessing because oil isn't under pressure on the bores, just for cooling.
- new mains and big end bearings - oversized .25mm
