My Oil Order for a BNR34 Victory Spec (R34 GTR Vspec)

You can view the final service here /r34-gtr-service-vspec-all-fuilds.html

----------------- My Choice -----------------
After much research and debates I have chosen:

- Fuchs Titan Super GTO 10W30 OR the Motul Turbolight OR a 300v 5w40 @ 5lt
- Fuchs Titan Supergear LS 80W-90 OR Motul Gear 300 LS 75W90 - Rear diff @ 2lt
- Fuchs Titan super gear 80W-90 OR OR Motul Gear 300 75W90- Front diff @ 2lt
- Nissan D Matic - transfer case [cheaper than i thought so i have chosen it] @ 2lt (comes in 5lt bottle)
- Motul Multi ATF (I think it could be the Motul Dexron III) or Fuchs ATF 4400 or Amsoil Synthetic ATF  @ 5lt
- Motul RBF600 @ 3lt
- copper plugs
- oil filter

Reasons for choice:
-> R34 GTR Vspec manual transmission = 6 speed Getrag transmission which requires "NISSAN MISSION BNR34 Special" which is an automatic transmission oil. Some people use a Castrol Transmax Z.  Basically the 6 speed getrag needs a high quality ATF
-> After lots of reading the A-LSD found in the Vspec requires a LSD oil.  After seeing pictures of the rear diff saying "LSD Oil Only" it was quiet clear.
-> Front diff is just a standard gearbox oil
-> Even though it is probably no big deal to use a Castrol Transmax in the transfer case I opted for the genuine stuff after reading some Japanese article.  It was also cheap and easy to get a hold of.
-> brake fluid is a bit of over kill on those road car.  I might drop it down a notch. the RBF600 is more suited for a person that will do a bit of track work.
-> rather change the plugs more often, hence the cooper. and copper also provides a better spark due to better conductivity than the platinum.
-> engine oil is personal. I tend to stick with full synthetics. I was told the 300V was a bit heavy for a street car hence i went something lighter.

Engine Oil by Oilman
Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

Gearbox Oil by Oilman
Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Redline MT90 and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives.

----------------- Various Questions on the forums-----------------
recommendation on the gearbox oil, what should I use for the diffs as the 1999 vspec GTR has an active rear diff so should it be a Limited slip diff oil for the rear and normal diff oil for the front.

You want a straight 90 LS oil for the rear diff, Motul 90PA or the Fuchs Gear 90LS are ideal. You can use the same in the front, but a 75w-90 is what I'd go for, something like the Millers CRX, Fuchs Syn 5 Redline GL5, Motul Gear 300 or Gulf Competition.

Hi Oilman, can you confirm that the oil your website advises for a 1999 R34 GTR Vspec manual transmission is correct. The oil I was advised to use in the 6 speed Getrag transmission was "NISSAN MISSION BNR34 Special" which is an automatic transmission oil. If that was unavailable than use Castrol Transmax Z.
Just want to make sure I use the correct oil.

----------------- Servicing Brakes -----------------
Yep, in the 6 speed getrag a high quality ATF is what we recommend the one we normally go for is this one from Amsoil Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF

Order: rear left wheel, rear right, front left and front right last
 - this is a standard order but on some cars it can be different due to ABS
 - starting from the furtherest point of the master, and getting progressively closer to the master cylinder

ABS: bleed from top of the abs unit nipples
 - if no nipple found on the abs unit then you shouldn't have to bleed it. Just bleed calipers as per normal

Pushing Piston: undo the the bleed valve and the push the piston back
- some people say not to push piston back unless the nipple is open, why?
   # you may back feed the ABS units and damage it
   # damage caliper seals

Bleeding:
** I found this, simple and true **
Person 1, Pumps the brake peddle -> then holds the Pedal to the floor
Person 2, Opens the caliper nipple once person 1 has the peddle to the floor -> then closes the nipple once the pedal has hit the firewall.

*** but ***
i do it differently, i never want to over extend the brake master.
what i do is get someone to pump and as they pump crack the bleeder and close it quickly before the person releases their foot.
as a super serious bleed i start the motor to introduce vacuum. and i hit each bleed nipple once a again after i have flushed the system.

Tools:
 - Vacuum bleeder is one very handy tool.
 - I have also seen a master cyclinder pressurizing tool, which i heard does wonders.
 - Speedbleeder or bleed nipple check valves are super handy

Caution:
 -  Remember that brake fluid will strip paint, so keep it cleaned up if any spills.

----------------- Servicing Fluids -----------------
Locations:
6 systems under a GT-R:  Front diff, engine oil , transmission, transfer case , rear diff , ATTESA(in the trunk, bled from under the car)
 - transfer case is with the 4 wheel drive system which is rear of the box
 - centre of the box is transmission
NOTE: Don't fill it through the gearshift lever inside the car. That's the transfer case.

# ATTESSA - https://sites.google.com/site/tyndago/gt-rbleedingattesasystem

 - In order to get the best performance out of the ATTESA system, it should be bled. Often after a clutch swap, it is not bleed correctly.
1) Locate oil reservoir in trunk and check level. The top line is the full mark. This one is above the high mark.
2) Locate air bleed connector. In an R34 its in a panel under the dash. In and R32/R33 its in the drivers side kickpanel. Connect and disconnect this wire to run the ATTESA pump
3) Under the car on the transfer case, below the driveshaft, above the line going to the transfer case is a 10mm bleeder screw.
4) Open and close the air bleeder to bleed air out of the system, while connecting and disconnecting the air bleed connector.

  1. Hi,

good idea to summ up the oil requirements in one page. It saves a lot of time.
However the gear box capacity is 1.8L on the R34 not 4.1L (that's for R33 and R32).
Question : what oil did you finally us in the Attesa tank located in the trunk ? Manual says "nissan power steering fliud special". What oil did you use in place ?

u r right, it was 2lt when i changed it.

i only recommended next time the owner did a major service to flush the system, but apart from that fluid was full and no leaks were found.

i reckon i would have gone the nissan ATF stuff as i had spare from the gearbox, apparently nissan power steering stuff is a rip off?
Or could just go a standard dexron II as i believe the D matic is dex III
